Pet overpopulation is a serious problem in our community and across the United States. Over ten million animals are euthanized each year at animal shelters nationwide. Locally, in 2007 approximately 2850 dogs and cats were euthanized at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. Most of these deaths could have been prevented. Please consider adopting your next pet from your local animal shelter or shelter rescue group. Be a responsible pet owner and help us save lives by spaying or neutering your pet. The Society's hope is that animal shelters, including the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, will one day be places to adopt but not to euthanize. The Humane Society, Inc. (also known as The Oak Ridge Humane Society, or The Humane Society of Anderson County) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, dedicated to providing a spay/neuter program for the pets of low-income families in Anderson County, TN. In 2006, we are proud to have sponsored the spay/neuter'ing of 199 cats and 205 dogs of low-income families in Anderson County. In 2007, we sponsored the spay/neuter'ing of 208 cats and 207 dogs of low-income families in Anderson County. Since the beginning of 2008, we have sponsored the spay/neuter'ing of 217 cats and 261 dogs of low-income families in Anderson County. |
We hope to keep providing this worthwhile service to the residents of Anderson County for many years to come. However, we need your help. Our Spay/Neuter Program is partially funded through grants from the DJ&T Foundation, PetSmart Charities, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, and the Anderson County Commission. We also rely on monies collected from donations, fundraisers, coin banks, membership dues, memorials, newspaper recycling, and a flea market on Warehouse Road to support our spay/neuter program, assistance to the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, and our educational activities in local schools. Please donate to help us continue our efforts. All donations are tax-deductible.
We would like to sincerely thank our local veterinarians for partipating in our spay/neuter program.
Please feel free to contact us at info@andersoncohumane.org for any questions about our organization or our Spay/Neuter program.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Humane Society Board of Directors
